Intel Usb 20 Host Controller Driver Windows 7

Hi Gordon,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community Forums. We are here to assist you with the issues with Windows.

As per the description, you are trying to upgrade to Windows 8 from Windows 7 and the Windows upgrade assistant still says that you need to uninstall the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver to continue with the Windows Setup even after uninstalling it from the computer.

I would like to ask you a few questions on this:

1)Did you uninstall the drivers from “Programs and Features” in Control Panel?

The Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible host controller driver is known broken. If you want to use external devices you have to uninstall them and wait for intel to fix it. When you uninstall it all ports work with printers etc. But you lose USB 3.0 speed. I downgraded to Windows 7 in order to use automotive diagnostic software. Was able to install everything except usb driver. Been trying for days now using different drivers with no luck. Hardware is intel usb 3.0 extensible host controller. Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver This package provides the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver and is supported on OptiPlex and Precision models thar are running the following Windows Operating System: Windows 7.

2)Is the “Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver” still shown in the Device Manager?

If you are able to find the entry for “Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver” in the Device Manager, then I would suggest you to uninstall the driver from the Device Manager as well and check if you are able to continue with the Windows Setup.

You can do this by the following steps:

a)Press “Windows Logo” + “X”.

b)Click on “Device Manager”.

c)Search for the “Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver” from the device list and right click on it and select “Uninstall”.

d)Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the uninstallation of the driver.

e)Restart the computer and check if you are able to continue with the setup.

You do not need to worry about uninstalling this driver as Windows 8 has native in-box USB 3.0 driver which is automatically installed while upgrading to Windows 8.

Hope the above information helps and let us knows about the issue in your reply.
